Black Entrepreneur's Day is today! As a Black woman entrepreneur, I understand the work of realizing your dreams. Below is a fantastic event to celebrate, uplift, and help others begin their entrepreneurial journey. Daymond John, the founder and CEO of FUBU and Co-Star of ABC’s four-time Emmy Award-winning show, Shark Tank, has announced the fourth annual Black Entrepreneurs Day (BED). Black Entrepreneurs Day is an annual celebration of Black businesses aiming to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs. This year’s free, global live stream will air across the Black Entrepreneurs Day Website, YouTube, Facebook, and more at 7 p.m. EST. All smiles this week after facilitating two sessions with Academic and Development staff and leadership of Gamecock Athletics as part of a learning path Nika White Consulting designed to include multiple experiences that build on each other. Always enjoy my visits back to the campus of the University of SC. This week’s topics were centered on #allyship and #belonging delivered workshop style with lots of micro-learning activities and tools. I’m encouraged how the participants across both sessions leaned in with their contributions. And proud of my alma mater for not caving on #DEI learning during a time when so many institutions are. Walking away from sessions knowing that seeds were planted, hearts were impacted and minds were changed is so rewarding for designers of learning experiences. We survey after our sessions and below is some of the verbatim feedback we received: 💜 Exceptional content! 💜 It was very informative and eye opening to things I may not have previously learned. 💜 A lot of group involvement and clear agenda. 💜The facilitator is enthusiastic & her passion is definitely shown through her delivery and knowledge! 💜 Open discussion, examples related to work environment, great videos. 💜Today’s session was amazing and very much thought provoking. I think it was INCREDIBLY important to hear that it’s one thing to build out these tools for yourself, but for this group, it is equally important to build out these tools for the department. Spread any good vibes lately? I love vibing with my clients. It’s such a rush and makes the social impact work of #DEI so worth it. It’s easy to vibe with a client whose mantra is all about “spreading good vibes.” like the Faherty Brand. NWC has been fortunate to support Faherty on their #DEIB journey. This week was a pivotal moment in the #partnership when I was able to spend a day with the #leadership team in NYC providing an immersive DEIB Leadership Growth Lab experience. It was so much fun and so fulfilling. To be able to claim that as a master facilitator is a gift! To get a text while boarding my flight that read, “They loved you today!!!!!” made my heart swell and all the tiredness in my body leave and become replaced with rejuvenated energy. If you are in my inner circle, you know that after peopling all day, I am drained and need to recharge. But, my body, mind and spirit was saying something different on this day as I was making my way back to SC. The Faherty leaders found the experience so meaningful that they rallied to implement sharing out reflections in the team’s HQ meeting occurring just a day later as a way to keep the momentum going and share the knowledge and impact with their direct reports. I love fashion and I love comfort and when you put the two together you get the Faherty Brand. Time wasn’t in my favor to visit a retail store while in NY as I had hoped, but that’s OK, because a Faherty shopping bag was waiting on me with items in my size and just my style at my hotel. So many great impressionable insights from Friday’s #IntentionalConversations #Vodcast that featured Dr. Ella F. Washington. Here are a few of my favorite takeaways: ✔️ In times where divisiveness is so rampant, we should be able to rally around centering humanity. The message of #humanity is evergreen and never fails. ✔️ We struggle to have conversations with people with different opinions.m Providing tools to help navigate interactions where there may be extreme divergence of opinion is necessary if we want to improve relations. ✔️ We’ve all felt the #DEI whiplash. Since the 1960s the DEI pendulum has swung back and forth. The challenge is knowing that it will swing and not being caught off guard by the ebbs and flows. ✔️ What does a workplace look like that you can thrive in? This is different for each person and is described as workplace utopia. Be able to describe what #workplaceutopia looks like for you. ✔️ When asked, what do you keep saying that no one is hearing? Organizations can’t make change when they keeps running into the same pitfalls and fail to learn from historical challenges. Too many organizations continue to repeat the same mistakes. October is National Bullying Awareness Month, and this is an opportunity to encourage the nation to take #action to create safe and supportive organizations. I’ve heard (and experienced) a share of examples of how #bullying has left people feeling hopeless and losing faith in what my friend, Dr. Ella Washington refers to as “workplace utopia.” Workplace utopia is simply a #workplace that you can thrive in. When #bullying exists it is impossible to thrive and you best believe the person is silently planning an exit strategy or suffering miserably compromising their #wellbeing and overall sense of self. Know how to spot it so you can take action. I didn’t have the language for it at the time, to know that it was workplace bullying, but the situation looked like a combination of these examples: 👉🏽 Leaving me out of meetings. 👉🏽 Showing up to my meetings uninvited as an intimidation factor. 👉🏽 Overly dramatic laughter and kinship to colleagues close to me while ignoring me. 👉🏽 Flaunting and abusing leadership #power in the organization as a way to negatively influence others’ perception of me. 👉🏽 Downplaying or criticizing my contributions. 👉🏽 Providing unsolicited and unhelpful critiques of projects and initiatives I was a part of. If any of this is sounding or feeling familiar, please know that you are not imagining things. What you tolerate will continue. Seek support wherever you can, and know that you deserve better.

Picking a favorite client is a “no-no“ like picking a favorite child. But, if I had to pick a favorite client here are the reasons why: ✔️ They trust me and my expertise and I don’t have to prove my value at every turn. ✔️ They see me as an extension of their team. ✔️ They accept shared responsibility and #accountability in the outcomes. ✔️ They are collaborative and believe in co-creation given their institutional knowledge of the organization. ✔️ They understand that DEI work must be well resourced. ✔️ They know that #DEI work takes both will and skill - passion will only take you but so far. ✔️ They believe in evidenced-based data to inform strategic planning and prioritization. ✔️They believe in course correcting when necessary. ✔️ They believe in ✔️ They believe in progress over perfection. ✔️They believe in impact over activity. ✔️They understand that DEI work requires a parallel path of changing systems and changing mindsets and behaviors. To all my favorite clients, I’m grateful for our #partnership and committed to your success. Shoutout in the comments characteristics of your favorite clients. P.S. Struggling to gain buy-in from your organization? Remember that inclusiveness as a leadership competency is not reserved for people with titles like "diversity officer" or "inclusion manager." Framing inclusion as a leadership competency at all levels will be especially helpful in achieving buy-in from managers or career-focused individuals who might see D&I efforts as a potential distraction. A Reunion of Friendship: Meet my Bestie, Yolita Oparah 💜 Hey everyone! I recently had the pleasure of meeting up for dinner with a childhood girlfriend whom I have known and cherished for over 30 years. It was an incredibly fulfilling experience that left me with a heart full of joy, cherished memories, and a renewed commitment to our friendship. As we both drove 30 minutes to a restaurant that was a midway point, the nostalgic air surrounded us, taking us back to our carefree days of childhood. The conversation flowed effortlessly as we caught up on each other's lives, sharing stories, laughter, and even a few not so happy moments. It was amazing to witness how, despite being apart for long periods of time, our bond remained intact and seemed to transcend time. We reminisced about our shared adventures, recalling mischief, and recalling funny incidents that brought back waves of laughter. The memories flooded back, reminding us of the special moments and meaningful experiences we had together. It truly felt like not a moment had passed since we were in high school. During our conversation, we found comfort in sharing our thoughts, dreams, and doubts, giving each other advice, and providing unwavering support. It was a moment of reassurance, knowing that even after all these years, we could still lean on each other for guidance and encouragement. We marveled at the twists and turns life had presented us with, expressing disbelief at how quickly time had flown by. Yet, with each passing anecdote and shared experience, our joy grew. Despite the challenges and changes that have come our way, our bond remained as strong as ever. As the evening drew to a close, we made a heartfelt commitment to never let too much time pass between our visits. We vowed to make our friendship a priority, recognizing its preciousness and the joy it brings to our lives. It was a promise to nurture our connection and ensure that we remain an integral part of each other's journeys. May we all remember to treasure the people who make us feel like not a moment has passed, no matter how much time has gone by.

Carlo and Nika White Foundation (CNWF) held its Board Retreat today and it was such a success that I can barely contain my composure thinking of all the IMPACT to come. CNWF is 1 of 3 operating Black family foundations in SC, and one of 200 in the US, based on tax records. With that, comes a significant responsibility to be as innovative and strategic as possible in our approach to planning for long/term sustainability. When it comes to DEI, there's no one-size-fits-all approach. While mandatory experiences can bring people together and help them think through strategies for building community and cultivating respect across differences, others may not choose to spend their time that way or prefer to engage with the topic in another way. There's nothing wrong with having multiple avenues for presenting DEI information — in fact, I recommend it. What's most important is that people engage with the information and make a good-faith effort to show up kinder, more inclusive, and more respectful in the workplace and beyond. Now more than ever, this question of what a business' values, perspective, and stance are on certain social issues is under the microscope of diverse applicants. How your business shows up on social media and everywhere else online is a critical piece of your strategy for attracting new potential employees. One of the first things potential employees do when considering your business as a possible employer is look at your online presence. The question that they're trying to answer is: Who are you and what do you stand for? The Heart of a Woman Conference is a wrap and here’s a photo dump and highlights of the two-day event for your timeline: 💜 Relationships matter. I was honored that Natalie Williams asked me to speak on two panels. When we spoke regarding the conference, we had not connected in years, but the memories of my fond encounters with Natalie were warm and welcoming making it easy to say yes. 💜 Y’all know I’m intentional about IRL meetups so when Dr. Stephanie Kirkland told me she would be there, I was determined to make time for a quick visit. Tommi is a recent PAWrent of a rescue pug named Roscoe. 2. She worked as a NCAA Division I women's basketball referee for over 12 years, including being selected to work the NCAA March Madness Tournament 4 times. 3. But wait, there's a twist! 🤫 We're keeping the locations under wraps for now, adding an extra sprinkle of anticipation to this already extraordinary project. Trust me, the breathtaking, super cool, and iconic backdrops will be exactly what the next level of my branding needs to stand out in a crowded space. There are so many different ways each of us access power. ✔️ Identity confers benefits and disadvantages. ✔️ Your identity and power impacts your message. ✔️ Do not do DEI work alone. Who are the people already doing this work that I can work with? How do I get aligned with them first? How do I understand my voice is part of a shared collective goal? ✔️ Change does not happen through the sheer force of one person’s individual will, it is a collective force. ✔️Every day is a new opportunity for us to learn and do better. But we’re constantly evolving and changing and we’re best when we’re hungry for information and we’re curious. ✔️ Power mapping / mapping your allies - who in your workplace may feel the same that you do? ✔️ True change does not happen within a conversation. It helps us understand the possible health issues associated with approaching, during, and after menopause. #DEI encourages openness and acceptance. The Supreme Court's decision to eliminate affirmative action in college admissions has had far-reaching consequences. It affects educational institutions and hinders efforts to provide equal opportunities for people of color in various sectors, including entrepreneurship. The challenges Black women entrepreneurs face, such as limited access to funding, highlight the pressing need to address systemic biases and ensure equitable practices. While setbacks may arise, the fight for racial equality and inclusive opportunities must continue through collective action and persistent advocacy. Today is World Mental Health Day! Nine in ten Americans believe America is facing a mental health crisis, while suicide rose 5% in 2021 and 2.6% in 2022, according to the CDC. Suicide Awareness Month was last month, but awareness and prevention should continue daily. Let’s Talk Business South Carolina Episode 11 just dropped, and yours truly was interviewed. The entire segment is packed with punch as Rick Jenkins, and I covered a lot of ground, including the controversial topic of how "wokeness" has been weaponized and is largely misunderstood. My sentiments: ✔ Someone who is woke is informed about racial and social issues ✔ It’s never easy to make big change; however, that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be done. ✔ The “woke” backlash is wrong from people who don’t understand what woke means. Organizations should do the right thing and dig in. ✔ From my experience, people who are against wokeness can’t define what it means nor articulate clearly why they are against it. They are against something that makes them feel uneasy. They believe wokeness is against them when wokeness is simply about everyone being aware. So many great impressionable insights from Friday’s #IntentionalConversations #Vodcast that featured @christy.rutherford . Here are a few of my favorite takeaways: ✔️ We walk around with all the knowledge and give it away, but we aren’t doing it ourselves. Stop serving and start eating! ✔️ Distorting your energy to make people OK with who you are is damaging to your wellbeing. People want you to turn down your light to make them more comfortable - over time that turns into pain. ✔️ Being uncommon is very lonely. ✔️ When you’ve created a victim, no one remembers who started it! ✔️ The biggest challenge for women in the workplace is they are misplaced. ✔️Get in the right position Don’t be stuck on safe! ✔️ People want stable women on their team. It is no one else’s responsibility to fix what is broken, it is ours. ✔️ Am I going to spend my time controlling what I can control or am I going to fight the machine! ✔️Authenticity is the younger version of who we are. ✔️ We need to stop and smell the roses we’ve planted, stop and look at what we’ve done. Count it all joy and live from that place. ✔️ When we break the glass ceilings, there are women who have been broken by the shards of glass. We don’t have to die in the fight and battle and succumb to the wounds that happened during the battle. ✔️ We’re accustomed to being rejected, we’ve existed in pain for a long time, we’ve been told what we couldn’t do before we got to the job. ✔️ We don’t have the courage to shake the dust form our feet and carry on! Get out of our own way and have the courage to step out and stand out and not stay in the corner! ✔️ You have to have the courage to own how great you already are! Don’t be afraid of what other people feel about it. Learn to love yourself, it is a great gift. ✔️ Relax in your power, people will relax with your power. 4 ahas worth amplifying I was exposed to this past week while attending the All In Allyship Summit by Integrating Women Leaders Foundation: 👉🏽 Bystander paralysis is really a thing and the way to combat it is to equip yourself with strategies and tools you can quickly pull for use in the time of need. Preparation is key. 👉🏽 “Carefrontation” vs confrontation. When calling in behaviors that are harmful, try to deliver the news in a caring way to minimize confrontation. Delivery is just as important as the message to increase the likelihood of changed behavior. 👉🏽 Gender equity starts at home - partners sharing in domestic work at home creates greater sensitivity and awareness to ally for gender parity in the workplace. 👉🏽 Generous listening vs active listening - I love this reframe which helps to amplify that active listening is a show of generosity which endears us to those we are in communication with. 👉🏽 Allying and enabling are not synonymous. Allyship requires action that helps set marginalized individuals up for success. Enabling robs them of that ability. Proximity through IRL meetups is the best way to nurture relationships and partnerships. It was a no-brainer for me to make plans for an in person meetup when Marcela Celorrio and I connected and quickly discovered great synergy existed between us. Marcela’s role as a Senior Business Development Consultant with Nika White Consulting made a meet up IRL imperative before solidifying a formal partnership. In today's interconnected world, digital communication has become the norm for maintaining professional relationships. However, the importance of in-person meetings cannot be overstated, especially in cultivating strong #connections and fruitful collaborations. Real-life meetups have the potential to be game-changers and when possible should be prioritized to achieve these outcomes: ✔️ Build #Trust and Rapport: Through IRL meetups, colleagues can better understand each other's personalities, leading to increased rapport and camaraderie. ✔️ Strengthened Communication: While digital tools facilitate communication, they often lack the depth and richness of face-to-face interaction. In-person meetings provide an opportunity for spontaneous conversations, brainstorming sessions, and immediate feedback. ✔️ Collaboration and Creativity: IRL meetups offer a conducive environment for creative thinking and problem-solving. Being physically present with colleagues enables a free flow of ideas, encourages active participation, and sparks #innovation. ✔️ Establish Stronger Partnerships: In-person meetings are instrumental in developing partnerships with external collaborators, as it fosters a sense of credibility and likability. These personal connections enhance trust, loyalty, and the likelihood of future collaborations, even when working remotely. Remember the Mully Children’s Family ministry that the @carloandnikawhitefoundation has previously shared about as one of the missions we support? You know, the “world’s largest family” in Kenya that takes in poor, displaced, oppressed, orphan street children in Africa through rescue, capacity building, education, training, nutritional care, psychological support and spiritual care - founded by Dr. Charles Mully? A documentary called The Mully Movie was made to tell their story and it is fascinating as equally as it is inspiring. Carlo and I the honor of hosting Dr. Mully in our home this Friday evening during g his tour to the states. Dr. Mully continues to work and actualize the vision of MCF supporting the missions in a variety of capacities. It was such a treat to get acquainted and hear updates on the tremendous impact MCF is having on so many lives. Carlo was able to visit MCF a couple years ago. We were planning to as a family return but covid happened. To make this recent connection and visit with Dr. Mully even more special, our daughter, @hannahjoywhite, will spend three weeks this November doing missions and volunteer work at MCF. We hope you will learn more about MCF. You will be immensely blessed by the work they are doing. Is there ever a reason to be cocky? Inclusive Communications was the topic of session four that NWC delivered this week for USC Gamecocks Athletics, as part of a six month learning path for leadership, and academics and development department staff. My colleague, Mesha Mendenhall Mott, and master facilitator, took the lead on these sessions and the outcome based on participant survey results when asked what they found most helpful from the session were wonderful. ⭐️ “Presenter’s’ enthusiasm & clarity. ⭐️Great information with real examples. ⭐️Clear messaging and personable, relatable presenter with really impactful stories relating to the topic. ⭐️Great delivery and laid the foundation for a good discussion at the end.” As an alumna of USC, feedback like this is something to be cocky about. 🐔 Our #L&D philosophy at NWC is intentional and clear. This week I had the honor of participating in one of the most impactful summit experiences I have ever been involved. The All In 2023 Allyship Summit, The Journey Continues, was hosted by Integrating Women Leaders (IWL) Foundation, a 501c3 that accelerates the advancement of all women to drive individual and organizational growth and impact. IWL is also responsible for The Allyship Initiative, a national movement focused on #allyship in the workplace. My role was multifaceted. 💜 Panelist for Main Stage Conversation: Reactions from IWL’s Intersectional Panel of Women Experts. 💜 Designed & Facilitated the closing culmination session, Time Travel Through Transformation Stations: ✔️Psychological ✔️Convictional ✔️Behavioral All dimensions of transformation were explored through this critical reflection exercise where attendees were encouraged to process in community with others profound experiences and revelations from the summit that will influence their allyship path. The research results presented on the 2023 State of Allyship in Action study, was expanded this year to focus on: ➡️ Black Women ➡️ Latina Women ➡️ Asian Women ➡️ LGBTQIA+ ➡️ Women as Allies for other Women What I appreciated most about this experience was the opportunity to help shape and co-create the portions I was involved. All attendees walked away with useful Summit swag and resources including a copy my book, Inclusion Uncomplicated, published by Forbes Books. Love this recent airport sighting of my book, Inclusion Uncomplicated spotted at LaGuardia in NY. And, I love that my book is placed next to Dr. Nicole Price’s book, Speak the Heart, another Forbes Books author. In case you didn’t know, Black women authors stick closely together. We have to, there are so few of us. Black authors account for 6.28% of all registered authors in the US as of 2020. While in Indy this week, I took a chance and on a whim reached out to a fellow #DEI practitioner friend, Julie Kratz , for an IRL #meetup and we made it happen. I love #IRL meetups during a time where most are opting for virtual connections only since the pandemic. While the convenience is super helpful, it can’t replace the more personal touch of being proximate to people you are in #community with. Thank you for making the time, Julie, and for a great visit. @nextpivotpoint

No matter how one feels about the course of history, we should all be able to acknowledge that Indigenous people were on the North American continent first, and they deserve respect. Whether discussing the history that brought us to where we are today or exploring where Indigenous people are heading into the future, taking the day to reflect and show respect to Indigenous people is a powerful way to bring their struggles and triumphs into the spotlight. My hope is that we will use this day to build more empathy and understanding for those who came before us and shepherded the land we all have the privilege to enjoy today. Businesses can and should do more in recognition of Indigenous People's Day (celebrated October 9). Meet Hannah White! Hannah is a Development Management Candidate pursuing a Master of Science degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science, set to graduate in December 2023. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina's Honors College in May 2022. Hannah majored in Management and Marketing, with a minor in African American Studies, and concentrated on Entrepreneurship. In addition, she has earned a certification from the Transition Design Institute at Carnegie Mellon University in partnership with Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center, aimed at utilizing stakeholder research to address complex problems such as a lack of funding to minority entrepreneurs in the US and UK. Here are a few of my favorite takeaways: ✔️ Recalibrate means - creating individual and group spaces where people unlearn how they’ve been impacted by white supremacy and other biases. ✔️ The systems of racism have tramutized not only Brown and Black people, but White’s as well. We are all worthy and deserving of showing up as ourselves. ✔️ We’ve been taught that the mind and body are separate, but indigenous heritage teaches us they are very connected. ✔️ We try to be the expert of someone else’s experiences, but folx are the expert of their own experiences. ✔️It is easy for us to gaslight ourselves when we go through an experience. ✔️All the -isms continue to thrive when we are not talking about it. When we create the safe spaces that people can talk about it in community, then you can heal in community. ✔️ Work life harmony can get overlooked in work / grind culture… we forget the lower level of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. ✔️ Flexiblity, adaptability is a form of self compassion when we are giving ourselves the ability to change. ✔️ Give yourself permission to be OK with things being undone ✔️We are human beings, not machines. Rest is Resistance. ✔️Vicarious trauma - includes the emotional / psychological residue, the impact of a traumatic experience (grief, loss, death, micro or macroaggression in the workplace), when you are a practitioner and hearing the stories you are personally impacted by them, it is the leftover emotions you are left with. Symptoms can be low mood, burnout, lack of sleep, etc… ✔️ It is a normal human behavior to seek control, when we think things are out of control. ✔️ It can be easy to internalize and personalize someone else’s behavior. This isn’t about me, it’s about someone else. ✔️ When you give ambiguous feedback people are likely to become defensive. You can catch the full replay via link in bio.. I was honored to be invited by LinkedIn to collaborate on this learning experience on the topic of Understabding Bias in AI. The collaboration with Christie Lindor and Ashley Kennedy was superb. Enjoy learning with and from these two incredible women. Understanding #bias in #AI is crucial for creating fair and ethical systems. It is essential to acknowledge that biases can emerge from the data used to train AI models and the decisions made during the development process. Do you hold family board meetings? My family does and here is how the text invite from my husband, to me and our adult children reads: “Family we are having our Family Board meeting this Sat at 1:00. Food will be provided. I need you each to do a little homework assignment. Listen to this video and write down what stands out to you. It’s 39mins so don’t get weary… the man is putting down some serious wisdom and that’s what will be the heartbeat of our family board…wisdom and purpose and passion and ultimate prosperity in the things God has called this family to do. We will discuss to start our meeting and go from there. Love y’all!!!” His vision for our family has always been very clear and he has always been intentional to set us up for success with his leadership, wisdom, faith and covering. Why am I sharing this, because leadership starts at home. Take inventory to assess if your leadership is showing up at home the way it is in the marketplace.
